With the rise of social media and customer demographic analytics, all new startups and ideas revolve around a single thing – personalization. Too many a time, the whole pitch of a company is around offering curated, personalized experience to their users and that seems the cornerstone of differentiation. True, personalization is important and critical, as a whole generation now has grown up to expect your Facebook sign-in and Hello Filip on the top right corner of the page/app you are using. Yet, it seems companies treat it as an up-sell well content – in travel, it is typically up-sell to a business class ticket, a room upgrade, or even a VIP taxi service. I think we are missing the point here by a large margin – our focus should be not on up-sell, but rather on the right sell.
